1. Emergencies, made clear. An emergency is an unexpected event that creates immediate risk and requires action. The emergency plan explains how to anticipate, prevent and respond. Every company must have one (Decree 1072/2015, Art. 2.2.4.6.25).
2. Who does what. The company updates the plan, trains people and runs drills. The organization has three levels: strategic (decides), tactical (coordinates) and task (acts, like the response team). You know the emergency maps, take part in drills and follow instructions.
3. On the response team or not. Response team members are trained to respond. If you are not one of them, the best thing you can do is move away, report and evacuate.
4. Threats you may find. Natural: electrical storms, strong winds, earthquakes. Internal: fires, explosions, leaks, structural failures. External: robberies, attacks, riots. You don’t need to memorize them. You need to recognize them when you see them.
5. How to act. Stay calm, get to safety, report, and help only if it is safe.
First aid: the first safe action.
| Injury | What to do | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Sprain or dislocation | Rest, immobilize, raise slightly if possible | Massage, creams or ointments |
| Fracture | Immobilize in the position found; cover any wound | Moving the patient or resetting the bone |
| Superficial open wound | Wash with soap and water, pat dry and protect | Removing an object stuck in the body |
| Closed wound or bruise | Apply ice wrapped in a towel; check for behavior changes | Giving liquids by mouth |
| Internal bleeding | Lay the person down and raise the feet about 30 cm, unless there is a head, neck, back or leg injury | Moving the person with those injuries, unless there is immediate danger |
| Burn | Remove rings and tight clothing; cool with clean, cold water compresses; transfer to a medical center | Ice, creams or ointments |
6. Take care of your mental health too. Strong reactions are normal. Accept your emotions, look for support, breathe (inhale for 4, hold for 2 seconds, exhale for 6; 3 times), keep self-care routines and prefer official information.
